The Feminine Face of Power

Let’s talk about Power, shall we? It’s a crucial conversation if you’re aspiring to affluence. You cannot possibly create and retain wealth without also owning your power.

Despite what ‘they’ say, money does not give you power. Take my marriage to the gambler. I had the money, but he had the power. I gave it to him. He made all the financial decisions because I was too scared.

I’m convinced that women’s difficulties with money have very little to do with money per se and everything to do with our fear of or ambivalence about power.

The problem: We’ve don’t understand power from a feminine perspective. For whatever reason, the sexes view power very differently.

Women exercise power by building relationships. Men by asserting control. Women work best in collaborative models of ‘power with.’ Men favor a hierarchical model of ‘power over.’

The definition of power, as it relates to women, was perfectly summed up by psychologist Eric Fromm: “The main task in life is to give birth to our self to become what we actually are.”

When you view power from that perspective, you begin to understand that our fear of power is our fear of becoming fully who we’re meant to me…not watering ourselves down so we don’t make waves.

Think about it. There’s no better way to limit our power than by lowering our earning potential or by mishandling, neglecting, or ignoring our money.

To step fully into your power, you must know who you truly are, know what you genuinely want and express that in the world, unapologetically.

This requires tremendous courage. To claim your power, you must feel your fear, feel the foreboding and be willing to venture beyond the familiar, the comfortable, the habitual.

But you don’t have to—nor should you—do this alone. Surrounding yourself with support will significantly boost your courage. Remember, we women exercise our power by building relationships.

That’s exactly why I created The Wealth Connection (TWC), an intimate community of women who gather together, in a safe, confidential environment, to talk openly and honestly about creating wealth, as women. I invite you to check it out— https://barbara-huson.com/the-wealth-connection —and consider joining.

TWC may be just the supportive tribe you’ve long been yearning for. Where do you find support for embracing your power as a woman? Leave me a comment below.
