Financial Success: A Parable

Once upon a time, a very wise King decided to put a massive boulder in the middle of the road.

Everyone who walked by simply went around it. No one attempted to move it.

One day a poor peasant, carrying a load of vegetables, was walking down the road when he came upon the boulder. He put down his load, walked over to the giant rock and tried to push it aside.

It wouldn’t budge. He strained and struggled until finally it moved a bit. He kept at it until, slowly, he was able to shove it out of the way.

That’s when he noticed something on the road where the boulder had been. There lay a purse. He opened it up and saw it was filled with gold, along with a note: This is the reward to anyone who moves the boulder.

Moral of the story: Every obstacle is an opportunity in disguise. The bigger the obstacle the greater the reward.

Here’s my question to you:  What’s the boulder in your path? Leave me a comment below.

I received my acceptance letter for a MBA program today. I’m am a single mother of two children in elementary school, and I work full time. My decision to apply for this program was purely spirit led. I trust that just as the poor peasant was able to move the boulder the King put on the path, I have what it takes to successfully move the one my King placed on mine.

Thank you for sharing this. The timing…

Congratuations, Ashley. Your boulder is going to be time management! I don’t have any kids, however I find learning little different home organizational hacks and time management skills helps me balance school, work and home life.

A new job (need one). Family pressures. Money to rebuild my home after a wildfire. Housing. Now, my mental health after years of stress. Unhappy and struggling to support my family alone.

Fear; low self-confidence to start a new career.

I find that I just have to open to receive more, learn more, and not be afraid to talk about money with people. It’s been eye-opening to include this as a spiritual practice and not be ashamed of mistakes, or being in debt. I believe I have more to learn because I was never taught how it works, it always seemed such a mystery.

I love what you wrote, Monica…especially making this part of a spiritual practice. Yes, if no one taught you about money (or anything for that matter), it feels like a mystery. But it’s really quite simple to learn. Glad you’re talking about it, asking questions. You’ll learn a lot

    Barbara,

Did you write this fable? It’s brilliant!

My boulder is my financial accounting teacher. He’s not only a lazy twat , his grading system is inappropriate and manipulative. I can say this, because I’ve been taking college courses almost every year since I was 18 and I’m 48, so I know what’s normal and what’s unacceptable! Now I’ve decided to take over and teach his course, not because I’m a little know it all, but because I want to help others in the class and myself! I’ve already inspired someone to become an investor!
