Crisis…or Opportunity?

Disaster seems to be a constant theme in the world these days. But, according to the Chinese, the word for crisis consists of two characters, one for risk, another for opportunity. And I wonder.

Could these disasters, natural or man-made, actually be opportunities for growth and transformation?

Clearly, a new normal is emerging.  Life as we know it will never be the same. Perhaps the pandemic, the riots, the natural calamities and whatever else may befall us, are in truth, a wake-up call from our Soul with an urgent message:

Stop what you’re doing. Pay attention. The world is changing. In order to thrive, you must change too.

In his Wall Street Journal column, behavioral economist Dan Ariely explained: “Disasters are usually a good time to re-examine what we’ve done so far, what mistakes we’ve made, and what improvements should come next.”

As I hear about one seeming disaster after another, I ask myself: What am I not seeing? What unhealthy beliefs stand in my way? What do I need to release so ‘better’ can come? What old grievances do I need to heal and forgive?

As I ponder these questions, I begin to sense my direction may be morphing slightly or perhaps shifting into something altogether different. I have no idea what that means. So, I’ll continue exploring.

Now I sit in the uncertainty, not sure what the future holds. Yet as I think about the possibility of miracles, I’m hopeful.
