Why Wealth Matters

I dream of the day when every woman knows, deep down, that she has the capacity to create wealth and the confidence to actually do it.

I suspect for some of you, however, the mere mention of the “W” word feels wrong, bad, like ‘how can I be rich when so many are poor?’

But consider the words of Abraham Lincoln: “If you want to help a poor person, do not be one.”

Besides, creating wealth is about far more than amassing riches. It’s about waking up to the truth of who you are and the power you have, the enormous power, to not only create wealth but to use it as a tool to help others.

I love how Rev. Michael Beckwith put it: “You can’t be light of the world if you can’t pay light bills.”

Sure, I want you to be able to pay your bills.  But my deepest desire is to see you shining your light at maximum wattage, without the distraction of insufficient funds or unhealthy financial habits.

No more dimming yourself down to please others or refraining from rocking the boat so you don’t make waves.  It’s time for you to make waves. Big ones. I want to see a tsunami of women shaking up the world, shining their light, eradicating the darkness that’s so pervasive on this planet.

How do you feel about creating wealth for yourself? I’d love to know. Share below.

    Dear Barbara,
Even though I have a law degree, I have NEVER been able to create any savings or wealth for myself. How do I feel about wealth creation? I don’t have the slightest clue how to create wealth, have wealth, think about wealth or really, even consider having real wealth for myself. I am now 60 years old so I have about given up on the idea.
I do admire your never ceasing attempt to help women like me learn about wealth creation. Keep up the good work.
    Sincerely,
    Jenny Tuffnell

Jenny, pleeeeeeeease do NOT give up. It’s not too late. I promise you. I just did a you tube video telling the story of a 75 year women whose “wealthy” husband died, leaving her with considerable debts. She was shocked, knew nothing about money, but she got busy and when I met her10 years later, she says to me “I”m a very wealthy woman?”

You can be too, Jenny. Please check out my online community, The Wealth Connection, on Facebook. I’ve witnessed how these women are getting smart and building wealth in a very short time. I’d love for you to join…I’d LOVE to help you, support you, give you the confidence and knowledge that YES, you can do it. I guarantee…it’s not too late!!!!

    Hi Barbara,

I’m so glad you are doing this–and I love how passionate you are about doing it!

As you know, I am passionate about my work too, and I make a good living doing what I love. Yet, aside from our beautiful home (which is where most of our money has gone) and a little cushion of maybe 200,000 that we have saved and is in a CD, gold, some stocks, and cash.

At the same time, I have deep resistance to putting much focus on money or building wealth. Except for a short time in my early years, I’ve had other people watching over my money. There is a part of me that thinks I should get involved in this process, and sees the value of it, but my gut feeling and body pulls away from thinking of putting any of my time into learning about this subject. So I get the value, and I don’t want to spend time with it. And I love the idea of wealth building!

Always great to hear from you, Joan. I am intimately familiar with the resistance you speak of…I had it for years. Whenever you decide you’re ready to bust through it, I’d love to support you. At least you have a cushion that’s invested, so that’s awesome! Keep up your great work!!! xoxo

I’m working on being a millionaire and if the market stays up I’ll be very close by the time I’m 65. I turn 60 this year. I do not have an advanced degree. I work my full-time job making about 60K, and I pick up hours at a side job. I single-parented my son from when he was 13 years old and never received more than $300 a month in child support. He is now in Dental School. I keep my expenses low. I drive an older vehicle that I bought used. I do treat myself to self-care appointments such as massages and occasional skincare treatments. I manage my own investments and like doing it. I have no consumer or student loan debt and my home will be paid off in under 20 months. I’m sharing my story so other women know that it’s possible to be financially successful if you pay attention to where your money goes.

Wendy, thank you soooooooo much for this inspiring post and sharing your wisdom. You are such a fabulous role model. I’ve always said you do NOT need a whopping salary to create wealth…and you are living proof of what’s possible if you pay attention and use common sense. Wow…love everything you wrote!!!!

For me, wealth isn’t about THINGS I can buy. It’s about things I CAN DO….when my community theatre needs new seats with adequate padding, when the art theater needs a digital projector so it can continue to show independent movies, when a friend’s husband leukemia returns and they need financial support during 2-3 months stay in hospital for better treatment.

    Wealth isn’t about can’t, it’s about how can I …

Cara, what you wrote is profound! This is EXACTLY why I am so keen on women creating wealth…it’s what we can DO with our money that matters. You are beautiful example and I so appreciate your sharing. In fact, I’d love to use your post in a future blog….and I’d love to use your name, though I am perfectly willing to keep you anonymous. Do I have your permission?
Thank you so much for sharing…I’m sending you a big cyber hug!
