A Spiritual Approach to Financial Angst

Recently this thought has become almost obsessive. It’s time to preach the gospel of the Metafiscal.

Metafiscal, a word I coined, blends financial knowledge with metaphysical principles, melding the spiritual with the practical in regard to money.

You don’t have to be religious to be Metafiscal. I’m certainly not.

But I do agree with Deepak Chopra who said, “We need a more spiritual approach to success and to affluence.” Especially in the midst of so much financial angst and upheaval.

It’s no accident that “In God We Trust” is emblazoned on our currency. God can be whatever you’re comfortable with—a personified deity, a Higher Power, your inner wisdom or an all-encompassing energy far greater than our earthly selves.

When I was going through my financial crisis, with a million-dollar tax bill and no money in the bank, I was sure God had abandoned me. But eventually I realized, it was me who had abandoned God.

When you think God has not answered your call, you have not answered His. ~~A Course in Miracles

I did as the Course instructed. “Learn to be quiet, for His Voice is heard in stillness. I spent hours in prayer, meditation, along with learning about money. Over time, the veils began to lift. Slowly I took the financial reins, and shockingly, I actually enjoyed the process.

I’m convinced that healing financial angst is not meant to be a solitary journey. When you focus on communing with the Divine, requesting guidance, developing a deep sense of trust in the inexplicable forces of the Universe, along with studying the practical facts, everything changes.

Financial success becomes a transformational journey, a sacred initiation, empowering you to become all you’re meant to be and to do what you’re put on this planet to do.

I’d love to hear how you’ve combined the spiritual with the practical in your financial journey. And if you haven’t, do you think it might be time? Leave me a comment below.

I feel like my ongoing experience with money relates exactly to the opening quote from A Course in Miracles. I have been hugely frustrated with how my family handles money and now I’m finally using my frustration as a nudge to do something to open up communication in this strangely difficult area. The long story short is we were all gifted land from my grandparents while they were still alive. My mom and her two brothers combined it all into a partnership in which we collectively hold various properties throughout the United States. I’m 45 now, and I’m a limited partner with zero legal say in how things are managed. The general partners have no plan for what to do with the partnership when, eventually they pass AND no plan to sell the properties and dissolve the partnership while they’re alive. We all receive an annual disbursement from the partnership. All my siblings seem totally fine with the arrangement, and I’m the only one asking questions. At least I’m asking. I desperately want to understand everything from the highest perspective. I think that’s the long way of saying that I’m listening to some small inner voice (whose words I can’t quite make out yet) and I’m acting with communication. Thank you always for your emails and sharing your wisdom.

Thanks for your post, Elizabeth. I feel your frustration…I really do. But, as an ACIM student, you know nothing happens by accident, everything is a “lesson God would have us learn.” It’s so good you’re communicating and asking questions. But who are you asking? Are you getting the answers you need? If not, or you’re dissatisfied with the info, I urge you to contact an attorney who specializes in real estate and/or estate law. They can best answer your questions from an unbiased place. I commend you on your determination and wish you the best of luck.
