Dare to Streeeeetch

The philosopher Soren Kierkegaard once declared, “To dare is to lose one’s footing momentarily; to not dare is to lose one’s self.”

To achieve financial success, you must make a tough choice—stick with what’s doable or dare to take the more demanding route.

Basically, this is how the high earning game is played—stretching beyond comfortable to the seemingly impossible.

Almost always, stretching is preceded by the thought, “I can’t do that” or “it’s too scary.”

It’s as if each call to stretch is an initiation of sorts, as if each act of daring becomes a private rite of passage.

The audacity to do what feels frightening, if not outright unobtainable, is precisely what elevates successful women to the next level—often in earnings, usually in skills, always in self esteem.

The stretch I need to take, am moving towards as we speak is taking a full time (4 x 10 h/week) job for which I am firmly asking $120,000 yearly salary. The reason this is a big stretch for me is that I have a 4 year old and a 10 month old and my husband works very long hours and we don’t have any family near to help with childcare. Since my 4 year old daughter was born I only worked per diem, but it made me cringe when I saw my yearly earnings in 2022 was 20,000. Taking this leap while continuing to take good care of my children and our home will be a serious stretch. But I am tired of financial mediocrity if not struggle and my self esteem certainly needs a boost! Thank you for this timely email!
